Tim Avery is a clinical psychologist licensed in California and Michigan. He treats anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, and co-occurring physical and psychological conditions, such as insomnia, nightmares, and chronic pain.  

Dr. Avery completed his graduate training at the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium at Palo Alto University and his clinical internship at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. His graduate training focused on posttraumatic stress, substance use disorders, serious mental illness, cognitive impairment, chronic pain, and disordered sleep.  Additional emphasis included complementary and integrative health interventions and research during a postdoctoral fellowship jointly with the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC), VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University School of Medicine. Following fellowship, he was a facilitator in support of mobile mental health apps implementation into health care at the National Center for PTSD, a Vet Center counselor, and Assistant Chief of Psychology for Specialty Psychology at VA Palo Alto.

Prior to becoming a clinical psychologist, he was an intelligence officer focused on special operations and deployed as a member of a Naval Special Warfare Task Unit.  He was also a management consultant for systems implementation and evaluation, primarily at the juncture of information technology and financial management.  Dr. Avery volunteers with multiple organizations, with emphasis on life transition post military service.
